Another die-hard loyalist of President-elect Muhammadu Buhari, departed Yola, the Adamawa State capital, Saturday morning for Abuja on foot to witness
the May 29 swearing-in ceremony of Buhari.
An eyewitness said the trekker identified himself as Mallam Abubakar Duduwalle, who before his departure, told residents in the city that his decision was informed by his ardent support for Buhari.
According to him, Duduwalle said he has been Buhari’s supporter for 12 years starting from his first attempt at the presidency on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and vowed to walk to Abuja to witness Buhari’s swearing-in as Nigeria’s new president.
Another fan of Buhari, Suleiman Hashimu or “The traveller”, had also promised to walk from Lagos to Abuja to witness his swearing-in if he won the presidential election.
Hashimu started his journey three weeks ago, and by Monday last week, and after wearing out five pairs of shoes, had arrived Suleja, 35 kilometres away from Abuja.
The journey from Yola to Abuja, on the other hand, is approximately 800 kilometres by road and will take slightly more than two weeks before Duduwalle arrives at his destination.
But the ardent supporter said his joy would only be complete if he walked to Abuja on foot to see his idol.
Investigations revealed that Duduwalle was once detained by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2003 presidential and governorship elections due to his vehement support for Buhari.
Duduwalle was also among witnesses who testified at the Justice Zanna Election Tribunal in Yola after the 2003 elections against alleged electoral malpractices and intimidation by the PDP. He was led in evidence by Buhari’s lawyer at the time, Mike Ahamba (SAN).
Reports indicated that he had arrived Lamurde, the border town with Gombe State yesterday afternoon and was making progress.
