Ideye to miss friendlies, Okafor named replacement

Striker Brown Ideye will not be part of the Nigeria friendly matches against Uganda and South Africa this week due to a minor injury.

The 26-year-old West Brown player, who missed Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Manchester City, will have to wait for his international return as he will be out for at least one week.
Ideye who was a member of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winning side, last featured for the Super Eagles as a second-half substitute in the friendly against Italy at Craven Cottage on November 18, 2013.
Media officer Toyin Ibitoye confirmed the absence of the striker from the friendly matches against Uganda and South Africa, but insisted he will be expected for future games.
“The players are already on their way to Uyo to resume the upcoming games with Monday mandated as deadline. Only Brown Ideye will not be available for the ties against Uganda and South Africa,” Ibitoye told Goal .
“We have been informed by the [West Brom] officials about his injury – this was the major reason why he was rested for the weekend. Unfortunately, it means he will miss our two international friendlies.”
In his place, acting coach Daniel Amokachi has now called up Warri Wolves striker Onyekachi Okafor.
The announcement was made via the team’s official Twitter account on Monday morning.
